On Broadway and beyond, merchandise booths are filled with branded goodies. From posters to stuffed animals and everything in between, you can find countless ways to commemorate your experience with the show. My favorite merch is the program book.
It provides more insight than a traditional Playbill with flawless graphic design. They cost roughly $20 and is absolutely worth it for your favorite shows. For a while, I had them serve as coffee table books, but the flirtation with damage made me so nervous. I decided to put them on display safely. After playing around with several designs, I found one that works perfectly and costs about $26. I found a set of 3 floating shelves on Amazon for $16.99. These are light enough to be held up with command strips so they won’t cause any permanent damage to your walls.
I love how these turned out. I can easily grab a book without worrying about damage. How do you display your program books and other assorted merch? Comment below.
Coming from an American, I only bought one playbill- I only saw one musical in the West End so that was the only one I bought. The others I got at the door so those were free. Just saying.
The other merchandise are displayed differently depending on what it is. I have two musical theatre snowglobes, which are displayed with the rest of the snowglobe collection. All of the musical theatre books, which talk about the history of certain musicals and musicals in general are just on my bookshelf. See- it depends on the souvenir itself.
One souvenir, which I consider part of my musical theatre collection, I did not buy when I attended a show. I decided to name a stuffed animal after a musical theatre character- I name stuffed animals after what they look like. A school event called Candy and Critters- we make our own stuffed animal- so at that event I made a stuffed animal, which I named after a musical character.
I love how on Broadway they had you a free Playbill right at the door. It’s so exciting. I bought a majority of my souvenir programs books in the West End.
I’ve never seen a musical snow globes. That’s so cool! Which ones do you have?
I only been to Broadway once- did not keep that one. On tours, playbills are free as well. There came a point where I eventually started collecting my playbills. I rely on touring productions- I don’t live in or near NYC- I live in Charlotte, NC, a popular touring destination.
I went to Lion King last week. One of the souvenir options was a snow globe. I already collect snow globes so I could not help but get it. I have a Wicked snow globe as well- my mom found it online when looking for a Broadway Christmas Present for me
